- Solar declination - The Sun's angle relative to Earth's equatorial plane, varying throughout the year
- Hour angle - The angle the Sun makes with the local meridian, calculated for civil twilight (-0.833°)
- Equation of time - Correction for Earth's elliptical orbit and axial tilt affecting solar noon timing
- Geographic coordinates - Your precise location for local solar calculations
The calculation provides both sunrise/sunset (when the Sun's center crosses the horizon) and civil twilight times:
- Civil Dawn - Morning civil twilight begins when the Sun is 6° below the horizon. There is sufficient light for most outdoor activities.
- Civil Dusk - Evening civil twilight ends when the Sun is 6° below the horizon. Artificial lighting becomes necessary for most activities.
- Sunrise/Sunset - The Sun's center crosses the horizon, accounting for atmospheric refraction (0.833° correction).
